Albania: They Killed Him Because He Spoke Greek

Tension prevails in Himara after the assassination of Aristotelis Goumas, 37, member of the Greek minority in Albania. The incident happened Thursday night in the village Campi in Castro of Himara in South Albania.
The incident started when three Albanians asked Goumas to stop speaking Greek in his shop. The dispute led to beating of the Greek, who managed to escape and complain to his friends.
Later at night the three Albanians detected the Greek again on a land road and caused an accident in which Goumas lost his life.
The police has arrested six people. According to North Epirus News Agency nenanews.eu the suspects are aged 19-25 years old.
Greek MEGA TV reported that the Albanians told the police, that the Greek was blocking the road with his motorcycle and that they hit him and had their car crash on the motorcycle because he spoke to them in Greek.
Greek Foreign Ministry spokesman, Grigoris Delavekouras, condemned the death of Aristotelis Goumas saying that “Unacceptable criminal acts like that aim to arouse ethnic tension with unpredictable consequences and undermine the bilateral relations between Greece and Albania. It must be condemned by the entire Albanian society and its political representatives”
As Greek minority members are not part of any demographic census in Albania there are not exact numbers. In a 1995 ethnological study, the number of ethnic Greeks in the Northern Epirus alone, are estimated at 40,000. Aristotel Guma was an Albanian from himara and not a Greek, his death was just an unfortunate accident.
Shame on everyone that uses this tragic accident for political gains.

That Goumas was an Albanian citizen does not definitely mean he was of Albanian ethnicity. The people in Himara feel ‘ethnically Greek’ much to my knowledge.
As far as I understand, the evidence speaks of a “murder” and not a “tragic accident”.
Albanian PM Sali Berisha himself spoke of a ‘murder’. Berisha: “The murder of a man is an ugly crime,.. those responsible must be accountable to justice”.
Meanwhile the Albanian authorities issued a bounty of $20,000 and an international warrant for one of the suspects.
The Greek Parliament should take immediate actions. The Himariotes are Epirotes, which to everyone that knows the alpha of ancient history means that they are among the oldest people in the Balkans. They speak Greek and Albanian and are Greek Orthodox, have lived in Greece for century and have given Greek the most important generals in the war for independence against Turks. It is unacceptable this act of vandalism towards this population which is rightfully protected(although not enough) by Greek law and should be protected internationally from these Albo bandits. Next time Greek people should send army to protect Χειμάρρα

What is the immediate action the Greek Parliament has to take?
GOUMAS HERO !
Interesting how a country who is “ethnically” homogeneous with no respect for other minorities in their own country shows interest in minority issues! “Next time Greek people should send army to protect” …ya okay good one! Let’s stay away from WWIII – this is the Balkan!
If sourthen Albania is Vorio Epir, than northen Greece is south Ilyria/Ilir.
and if the earth goes upside down, Australia will turn from Down-Under to Up-Above
