Tsoclis: Famous Greek Painter supports rape via State TV

Social outcry has been  caused by the challenging statements of  world-famous Greek artist Costas Tsoclis on rape, rapists and their victims. Tsoclis supported the rape of women on the grounds that it is an “indication of vitality and expression of passion”

In an interview to State Television NET, Tsoclis says: “I do not understand why the rapist is more evil than the girl who  pprovokes. She herself asks for violence.”

Showing clearly the perverse state of mind of an aging man, he asks himself: “Who is really the most alive man? The old idiot, who sits at home and has no sign of eroticism inside him or he, who risking his life and freedom attacks a sexual creature, want to kiss it, embrace it, squeeze and clasp it?”.

The interview was first broadcasted ten years ago, but it was repeated on August 15, 2010 on the state TV. Interesting enough while he makes his statement, in the background are shown his visual art paintings with naked bodies even that of a child.

Confused by a brain that apparently has short circuited vascular circulation and sexual phantasies, he wonders: “How could life be more interesting? With those unloved and unmoved by the phenomenon, or with those overwhelmed by a passion that makes them attack? Attacking is a nice thing after all, isn’t it? To taste and enjoy what nature has created as  provocative” .

Blinded by mental and physical  feeble, Tsoclis offends millions of rape victims worldwide by allowing concessions to the rapists: ”I don’t understand, why police arrests the rapist and not the woman, who provoked him. It is nature that pushes him to do so.”

The Green Party

The provocative  interview on state TV was watched by a member of the Greek Green Party, who have issued a fiery statement. They claim that “the provocative part of the interview is a clear public incitement to crime, an act that punishable under Article 184 of Penal Code with imprisonment up to three years”. They demand that the National Broadcasting Council intervenes and accuse the state television that “it becomes a vehicle for disseminating abhorrence sexist ideas by attriburing  them validity through an intellectual”. They condemn the state television for broadcasting “views that morally legitimize the crime of rape”.

Social outrage

The statement of the Green Party and a youtube video showing one and a half minute of  the interview have been widely spread in internet, sparking a storm of condemning comments.  Angry men and women curse him as “woman hater”, “sexist”, ”sick”,  “retarded” and “pedophile” and call for actions to burn his paintings in public. The news has found no place in TV channels and there has been no official reaction from the  state television yet.

Costas Tsoclis is 80 years old. He is part of the Greek elite and  was  often praised as one of the most important Greek painters alive. He is the father of PASOK deputy Maya Tsocli.

Recently in a exhibition he showed his own coffin saying : “I want to show that an ‘important’ painter soon comes to end. I am 80 years old and I could have died already – do not cry too much”.

Now the painter has not to worry that people will cry too much…
