Greek F-16 Collision: Black Box found

The “black box” of the two-seater F-16 fighter jet, has been found and brought up. The black box was located in a depth of 920 meters off the island of Crete. The “black box” of the one-seater F-16, the second fighter jet involved in the mid-air collision, has been located but it is impossible to drag it up, as it is in a gorge, in a depth of 1,800 meters.
The “black box” will be sent to a laboratory in the USA and the first results are expected by the end of coming November.
State television NET reported earlier today, there were indications that at the time of collision the two fighter jets did not take appropriate courses so that pilots have no visual contact. .
The two Greek F-16 Fighting Falcons collided in mid-air on August 26, during training exercises, 15 miles west of the island of Chrissi, south of the island of Crete.
Captain A. Balatsoukas, 33, died on the spot, Captain Ios. Anastasakis, 35, three days later. Lieutnant P. Botsakis, 25, was injured.
From the very beginning indications showed a ‘human mistake’.
