Greece:Truckers and petrol station owners…

Posted by keeptalkinggreece in Economy

The tension between the government on one side and truckers and petrol station owners on the other side has not been diffused.

Petrol station owners are threatening to go on strikebecause of the cap the government imposed on the fuel prices. They are holding a demonstration right now dowtown Athens.

Truckers insist on demanding that their sector will not be “open” so new licenses can be issued. They protest by parking their vehicles on the side of main and national roads.

Meanwhile, tension prevailed on this morning between police and owners of trucks and fuel tankers, as they tried to start a convoy-protest and enter the city of Athens. So beware of  possible traffic jams especially in the national roads north and west of Athens.

The government remains adamant, however, insisting to implement the EU legislation and IFM/EU demands to open the so called closed sector of freight carriers.
