Greece-Turkey: There is a … thing about historical ships

Posted by keeptalkinggreece in Turkey-GR

Do you remember the scandal wedding party  with the sexy models  on the Greek historical armored cruiser Averof? Yeah… that party that caused an uproar in the Greek society? Now it’s time of our neighbouring Turkey to get upset about a similar, if not worst scandal.

It’s not a battleship but a historical vintage luxury ocean-yacht, the SAVARONA,  inseparable connected to the memory of founder of modern Turkey Mustafa Kemal Ataturk.

This yacht has been rented for $ 50,000 per day and used as a floating brothel for the rich and the eccentric. The crew was consisting of impressive girls (s0me under 18 years old) from Russia and Ukraine.  Turkish gendarmerie raided the ship today, which was tied to Muğla Göcek,  and arrested the ‘businessmen” and  the “crew”.

The Savarona was purchased by the Turkish government and presented to Mustafa Kemal Atatürk  in 1938. Atatürk held cabinet meetings and entertained world leaders aboard his yacht.  After Atatürk’s death, the Savarona passed to the Turkish Naval Authorities. In 1989, the yacht was leased by Turkish businessman  Kahraman Sadikoglu for 49 years.

The Savarona was in very poor condition and  the new owner embarked on an ambitious campaign of restoration,  no sparing at expenses. 260 tons of polished marble have been covering walls and floors, 65 tons have been used alone in the hamam.

In memory of Atatürk, his private suite has been restored as a museum containing many of his personal belongings.

The Savarona has  hosted VIPS such as  Prince Rainier, Prince Charles, the Sultan of Brunei, King Juan Carlos of Spain and Princess Diana.

Why am I writing this post as it has nothing to do with Greece? Ah, for the nice pictures, my friends!  You know, I have a ‘thing’ about ships, yachts, sailboats, don’t you?
