Turkish Corvette Beykoz: where do you go to, my lovely….

Challenging, proud and apparently deaf the Turkish corvette “Beykoz” sailed away from Turkish Aksaz Naval Base ( AksazDeniz Üssü)  on the south-east coast of  Turkey in Marmaris and came to Greece to upset us.

Beykoz has been seen off Rhodes, Crete, Cape Sounion, Kythnos, Kea and Andros. Some times in international, sometimes in Greek territorial waters.

Of, course, we feel provocted, so we sent the Greek Navy Battleship Krystallidis, to scare the hell off Beykoz. But the corvette keeps following her challenging course and our nerves are blank.

Greek media report that she has violated Greek territorial waters and continue her voyage with Greek territorial jurisdiction. I assume, Beykoz has not asked for any permission to take a cruise in our beautiful  Aegean Sea and make her way through our picturesque islands.

The lastest information is that the Greek crew has repeatedly called the Beykoz to depart from the Greek territorial waters, but without effect so far.

It is very possible that the crew on the Turkish corvette does not speak Greek or English.

I am sure the Greek crew used also the International Maritime Code of Signal Flags. You know, when a  sailor stands on the deck and handles quickly with small flags.

Maybe the Greeks showed the Turks a single Flag, with multiple symbolism but very clear language.

Meaning “Stop carrying out your intentions and watch for my signals.”

The Turks, not able to understand the signal flags, answered using a a different communication code, that of  Useful Two Letters Signals:

ZL - “Your signal has been received but not understood”

QD  – “I am going ahead”
