New Cyber Attack: Got a Nobel Prize Invitation per E-mail? Delete it!!!

Posted by keeptalkinggreece in Tech

A new hazarous computer virus will infect your computer if you open an e-mail, appearing to come from Oslo Freedom Forum.

The fake e-mail will invite you to attend this year’s Nobel Peace Prize in Oslo, Norway. You are very right to be suspicious then who in the world would invite you, average internte user, to a Nobel Prize ceremony?

If you open the e-mail, a Adobe PDF attachment  will appear in your pc screen and you will read:

Dear Sir/Madame. I enclose a letter from Oslo Freedom Forum founder Thor Halvorssen inviting you to join him in Oslo for the December 11th (sic) prize ceremony. Let me know if you have any questions.”

The moment you are reading this  a so-called “Trojan horse” will infect your PC and will allow hackers to take control of  the more precious thing in your life: Your Computer!

News Agency AFP reports from Oslo that there have been several cyber attacks at the Nobel Prize Institute. The Nobel Peace Prize website was also the target of a cyber attack two weeks ago.

Security experts have been wondering about this e-mail  fake Nobel invitation. Many link the issue to this year’s Nobel Peace Prize that was attributed in October to jailed Chinese dissident Liu Xiaobo, much to the distaste of Beijing. The 2010 Nobel Peace Prize will be handed over at an official ceremony in Oslo on December 10.

Some e-mails seem to have come through a Chinese “connection”.

Do not think, you have no links to China. Other may have! And you have no connections to Nobel Prize, anyway!
