Greek PM Papandreou: Co-exploitation in the Aegean Sea is Out of Question

Greek Prime Minister George Papandreou set very clear political lines concerning a possible co-exploitation of the Aegean Sea with Turkey. “There is no question of pooling energy resources together with Turkey in the Aegean Sea”, said he said speaking at the Greek parliament.
Mr. Papandreou stressed that there can not be any relevant discussion with Turkey, the moment there is , first of all, the threat of «casus belli».
As further reasons he mentioned: Turkey’s questioning of Greece’s sovereign rights through the ongoing FIR violations, Turkey’s refusal to recognize the International Law of the Sea (that gives Athens the right to extend its territorial waters from 6 nautical miles to 12) and the fact that the dispute over the continental shelf have not been solved on the basis of International Law and International Court of The Hague.
Papandreou noted that the rumors about co-exploitation of the Aegean Sea stem from the Turkish side for communicative purposes.
Nevertheless, Greek PM said that upon Greece’s initiative a request for a debate in the European Union about for Turkey’s accession course will be applied, if the neighboring country meet its obligations set in its road map.
George Papandreou was replying to a question about so called ‘”secret meetings and agreements” between Athens and Ankara on a co-exploitation of the Aegean Sea” posed by far-right wing party, LAOS.
With respect to any possible energy recourse in the Aegean Sea, the Prime Minister said that our country is interested in the demarcation of maritime zones with all neighboring countries, and that the old law about the utilization of these resources will be updated.
Last week Ankara implied a co-exploitation of the Aegean Sea
