“One in five Greeks live below the poverty line,” said Greek Labour Minister Louka Katseli opening the works of the conference “Together against Poverty” , a conference held in the framework of  the “European Year for Fighting Poverty. ”

The poverty threshold is estimated at EUR 6,000 annual income per person and  EUR 13,608  in annual revenue when it comes to family of four.

This makes a monthly income of EUR 500 for single household and of EUR 1,114  for a four persons family.

According to Katseli, 22% of the people living below the poverty line are elderly,  23% are below 17 years old  and 42% are unemployed.
