Greece is sending four CANADAIR fire-fighting aircrafts after Israels Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu asked for help to extinguish the huge fire raging in the Mt Carmel forest near Haifa in northern Israel.
The planes were to take off from a military airport near Athens tonight and were due to reach Haifa at dawn on Friday, after refuelling in Rhodes, Greece’s firefighting services said.
”This is a disaster of unprecedented proportions” said Israel’s PM earlier on Israeli radio.
At least 40 people, including prison guards and firemen were killed today in Israel as fire raged through a forest in its northern city of Haifa where a bus carrying prison guards was was trapped in the inferno after overturning. Dozens have been injured.
Police are evacuating thousands of people, including hundreds of prison inmates.
Israeli media report that firefighters have been unable to control the flames.
PM Netanyahu asked the leaders of Greece, Cyprus, Italy and Russia to send fire-fighting aircraft to help extinguish the huge fire.
Greek Prime Minister is sending four CANADAIR fire-fighting aircrafts to join the local fire extinguishing forces. CANADAIRs do not operate during the night.
The cause of the blaze is unknown.

The Greece panes arrived first; they worked non-stop; better that the big Russian planes. The Greece pilots made a big work, from morning till nigh. I think that they were the best. Thank you.
