Greece Xmas Carrols:Don’t turn away children tomorrow, Dec 24

Posted by keeptalkinggreece in Very Mix

If you door bell rings at 6 o’clock tomorrow morning, it won’t be the taxman! It will be neighborhood’s children wanting to sing the Christmas Carols. It is a Greece wide tradition. Open the door and let them sing!

They will ask you : “Να τα πούμε;” (Na ta pume? Shall we sing them?). Answer “Ναι!” (Νe! Yes!) or just nick with your head, let them sing at your step and give them a big smile.

There might be children, especially the very young ones, that don’t manage the whole Carol, others forget the words, some will be discordant and others  in a hurry to ring  next door.

Give them one coin per person, starting by 50 cents upwards. One or two euros is the average. Children have dreams and Christmas wishes and many parents won’t be able to fulfil them this year.

While giving them the money, wish them “Και του χρόνου!” (Ke tu chronu – Next year, too!)
