Italian-Greek anarchists link in Rome parcel bombs?

One day after the parcel bomb sent to Greece’s embassy in Rome, Italian daily “Corriera de la Serra” publishes an excerpt of the proclamation that accompanied the explosive device. According to the  newspaper, the organization ”Informal Anarchist Federation (FAI) – Revolutionary Cell Lambros Fountas” that claimed responsibility for the bomb claimed:

“We attacked again and we did it in response to the appeal of Greek comrades from ” Conspiracy of Cells of Fire. “For this reason we attacked, anew, one of the structures representing the Greek state and its servants in support to the comrades who were arrested in Athens and for the ”Conspiracy”-plan which, like ours, is based on the practices and the method of revolutionary violence. ”

The whole of the Italian press also points out that the explosion was avoided yesterday by chance, but also thanks to careful handling of the Greek embassy officials.

The parcel bomb was delivered on Christmas’ Eve but due to the holidays it was to be open yesterday, Monday.

Italian commentators argue that the deliveries of explosives parcels are due to the upcoming trial  of  the arrested members of the “Cells of Fire” to be held in Athens, Januray 17, 2011.

Lambros Fountas…

Lambros Fountas, a member of  Greek organisation “Revolutionary Struggle”, was killed in a gunfight with police in Dafni, suburb of Athens,  in March 2010. A week later, the Conspiracy of Cells of Fire/Revolutionary Group of Terrorists Commandos Lambros Fountas,  had issued a proclamation. Some media had said that this under-group of Cells of Fire was probably formed by some defectors from the Revolutionary Struggle.

Earlier today, three members of the “Revolutionary Struggle”, currently in prison, issued a statement condemning the parcel bombs in Italy, stressing that their struggle did not target civilians, like embassy personel. RS-members called on anarchists’ organisations not to carry actions in the name of Lambros Fountas.

Italian & Greek anarchists link?

Law enforcement agencies both in Italy and Greece are seeking for a possible link between Italian FAI and Greek “Conspiracy of  Cells of Fire”. The Greek group had claimed responsibility for the 14 parcel bombs sent to foreign embassies in Athens last month.
According to Greek daily “Ta Nea”, the Counter terrorism Department in Italy had evidence of contacts between Italian anarchists from Padua, Reggio Emilia region and Milan and Greek anarchists.

The area of Reggio Emilia, considered as a base of the FAI, the organization claiming to have sent the parcel bombs to the embassies of Switzerland, Chile and Greece in Rome.

TA NEA claims that there is a Greek arm of FAI in the name of Lambros Fountas.
