German Politician: Greece should exit the Schengen Area

After repeated calls to Greece to exit the euro zone, I hear another call for another exit. “Greece should exit the Schengen Area”, urged a German politician from the governing party.  Furthermore, I would never think that the issue of illegal immigrants in Greece could trigger an inner-party conflict among the German conservatives…

Günter Krings, CDU-Fraction Vice Chairman, urged Greece to exit  the EU Schengen Agreement. “The Greeks should have the decency to leave the Schengen area better today than tomorrow, if they are not willing or  are not able to control their borders, ” Krings said to German daily Rheinische Post (via STERN.de )on Thursday.

The Schengen Agreement signed in 1985 created the border-less Europe, with no border controls among the EU-member states.

Also the European Union should not longer just watch, “how the Greeks trample the procedures laws with their feet, ” demanded the CDU politician.

CDU stands for conservative Christian Democrat Union, the party of  German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

Krings’ call comes a day after German Interior Minister Thomas de Maizière  from the same CDU-party decided to  temporarily stop sending illegal immigrants that have entered the European Union via Greece back to the country.

BILD forever

De Maiziere’s  decision scared conservative-populist German newspaper BILD almost to death. Unable to deal with the new panic attack, the newspaper passed it over to its readers, claiming that Greeks do not want to stop the influx of illegal immigrants speculating on more economic aid from the European Union.

BILD -Original Text in German

“Oder wollen sie es etwa gar nicht? In einem Papier des Innenministeriums (liegt BILD vor) ist unverhohlen davon die Rede, dass die Griechen auf noch mehr EU-Hilfe spekulieren.”

Furthermore BILD claimed that “Fact is: almost 90% of all EU asylum seekers come via Greece and that “500,000 illegal immigrants live in Greece”. Therefore, “the EU sends additional EUR 10 million as Refugees aid to Athens.”

WOW!
