I just looked at the new Vercace Spring/Summer 2011 collection and I must say… WOW! There are lots of AHs and OHs and thus for many reasons. Most important is that the “Greek theme collection” transforms into a perfect symbolic way the Greek recession through minimal dresses and the huge Greek debt through expensive Vercace prices.
I have never been a Vercace fan. However in this collection I see a very positive colour-design approach in times of very negative news about the notorious Greek Debt that turn every Greek’s life into a grey cloud of misery! What else could symbolize better the Greek recession than a minimal dress?
The Italian fashion designer uses a Greek theme. The Greek Symbol for eternity! As I am not good in describing “fashion” I cite an excerpt from Vogue that wrote in a review:
“Versace gave another discreet show of skin by curving out panels at the shoulders, waist, and back, and by inserting transparent or colored plastic into the seams of sheath dresses. The latter was taken from her manipulation of the iconic Versace Greek eternity symbol, which provided a graphic decorative refrain throughout the collection. And it never looked better than when it was done in a dress in a repeat of the symbol in black, red, turquoise, and white, creating a print that was somewhat tribal, embroidering it with those geometric sequins, and stringing it with short fringing at the décolleté. The dress fused Versace then and Versace now, and it looked absolutely right.”
My absolute favorite dress is the one pictured below, even though I have neither the money to buy it, nor the body shape to wear it! My figure is a bit more extended to fit into such a slim cut.
Like a typical Greek I have eaten more than my body’s calories-budget could afford…
