Two Greek C-130 ready to evacuate Greeks from Alexandria

As the situation in Egypt is getting more and more out of control, Greece’s Foreign Ministry has prepared a plan to evacuate Greek nationals from Alexandria, provided the city’s airport will open.
Foreign Ministry has  set two Hellenic Air Force C-130 planes to be on standby in order to evacuate around more than 100 Greeks living in Alexandria, who has asked to be repatriated.
 
Unlike the airport of Cairo, the airport of Alexandria remains closed.
 
To enable Greek of Alexandria leave the country, first the airport should be open and second it has to be ensure that the citizens will be able to reach the airport in safety, Greek Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
 
Greek embassy and consulate personel are in  constant contact with the Greek communities  in Egypt, as  well as with the Greek Orthodox  Patriarchate.  

No problems have been reported with the Greeks in Egypt and the only recommendation to Greek expats is that they remain in their homes, as the situation on the streets is very dangerous and there is anarchy and looting gangs.

 
According to Greek portal onalert  the leadership of the Greek Defence Ministry has ordered the Navy to be on alert, in case the number of  Greek nationals who would want to leave Egypt will dramatically increase. There are plans to apply an evacuation plan similar that for evacuation of Greeks from Lebanon.
 
The Greek community in Egypt numbers officially about 3,000 people, 800 of them living in Alexandria.
