Roads turned into lakes and rivers after heavy rains poured for hours in Athens. Main streets were flooded mainly due to clogged manholes. In some suburbs, like Glyfada, the water level reached 40 cm. In Athens coastal main road , Posidonos Avenue, cars, trucks and the tram were jammed as several “water fountains” sparkled in the middle of the road.

One man is still missing on the island of Spetses.

This morning thousands of  vehicles were lined up to 10 kilometres on the highway Athens-Corinth and traffic was open only at one lane due to accumulation of rainwater.

The heavy rains fell across the country causing damages mostly in south Greece. On the island of Syros, the Coastal Guards got literally wet feet as the rainwater entered the building even from the roof.
