Is Mubarak fleeing to Greece?

Posted by keeptalkinggreece in Politics

As protests continue all over Egypt, noone doubts that Hosni Mubarak will not manage to keep warm his gold-smideen throne until next September. Several scenarios about Mubarak’s future shelter – no bunker by all means - have  been circulating  since a couple of weeks, the latest claiming an exile in  Greece. A country that has historical and traditional ties with Egypt, to say the least, as both Prime Minister Papandreou and Mubarak are members in the same club: The Socialists International.

Last night rumors got fire in Athens, that a villa in the noble north suburbs of the Greek capital has been turning upside down, from the last lawn grass to the upper  dusty ceiling corner, to welcome Egypt’s unwanted president. No, do not expect official announcement. Such things do not happen this way. There is not even political discussion about the issue, as currently in Germany.

Then the strongest scenario talks about Mubarak undergoing a permanent and ’prolonged’ checkup in the healthy and wealthy environment of  Baden-Baden  ressort in Germany.

Another scenario has been claiming thay he would seek asylum in Montenegro  , where his son Gamal has business interests and the country offers a kind of “economic citizenship”.

Apparently also Oman and even Israel a came into question.

All these rumoring around scenarios remind me of  the thriller with the airplane carrying around the world in 15 days Kurdish leader Abdullah Ocalan when he had left Syria…

Anyway, I thinkMubarak will most likely choose Germany and picturesque charming Baden-Baden in the dark green of the Black Forest mountain, in the uparalleded premises of a clinic and offers the ambiance of a luxury hotel.

According to information obtained by SPIEGEL ONLINE, plans for a possible hospital stay in Germany are far more concrete than had been assumed so far. Talks are already being held with suitable hospitals, particularly with the Max-Grundig-Klinik Bühlerhöhe in the southwestern town of Bühl near Baden-Baden, SPIEGEL ONLINE has learned from sources close to the clinic. The hospital management declined to comment.

Black Forest can certainly provide the aging dictator with much cleanerair than the smog-polluted Athens. Of course, Hosni will miss the view of his much-beloved Mediterranean Blue Sea, but one can’t have everything in life. Even if he is  a $$-billion heavy ex-president…
