An hour before the opening of Athens Stock Exchange on Monday morning, National Bank of Greece declared that NBG is sticking to its bid for Alpha Bank , economic portal Capital.gr reported.
“NBG is sticking to its offer and is not in thinking to improve it” an NBG official told the portal under conditions of anonymity.
“Our proposal to Alpha Banks is generous as it offers premium more than 20% ” said the banker stressing that NBG is not in talks with the Alpha Bank.
This statement is a clear message to the markets as rumors spread over the weekend that the National Bank was preparing a better offer.
Small and big investors are holding their breath over the outcome of the deal as it would initiate the beginning of mergers in the Greek lenders sector and would force other banks into similar actions.
UPDATE: Shares of NBG and Alpha bank are skyrocketing at the Athens Stock Exchange, after lifting of the shares trading suspension on Monday morning.
