Traffic Regulations for National Day Parades, Mar 24-25

The centre of Athens will be closed to traffic for several hours today and tomorrow due to the students and military parades on the occasion of the National Day celebrations, March 24 and 25, 2011. Place of the parade is the Amalias Avenue at Syntagma Square, in front of the “Unknown Soldier” monument, just outside the Greek Parliament.
On Thursday, Mar 24, as of 9:00 am traffic will be gradually closed Amalias Avenue – Vasilissis Sofias – Panepistimiou – Stadiou – Vasilissis Olgas – upper part of Syggrou Avenue.
The students parade will start at 11:00 am and last appr. 1.5 hour – Traffic is expected to open after 01:00 pm.
On Friday, Mar 25 traffic regulations will be more strict, they will start at 6:00 am around Kolonaki area (Dionysiou Aeropagitou church – Skoyfa Str and surrounding streets)
Traffic will be gradually closed as of 7:30 am in the above mentioned streets PLUS Irodou Attikou – Omonia Square – Pireos Av- etc. It will include a broader area of Athens downtown.
The military parade will start at 11:00 am and last… well…. several hours.
Also public transport traffic will be affected.
Tomorrow there will be parades also in all municipalities across the country. So better avoid to use your car and go downtown.
