Footballer Adefemi, 26, killed in car accident short before his wedding

Shock and mourning in Xanthi’s football world with the tragic death of Olubayo Ademi, 26. who died in a road accident. Adefemi was on his way to Thessaloniki to catch a flight to Nigeria, where he was due to get married. Greek media reported that he lost control of his car due to slipperiness of Egnatia highway. His death was immediate. The accident happened near the city of Kavala in a motorway part with many turns.

Olubayo Adefemi was to get married on coming Thursday. 

Adefemi joined the FC Skoda of Xanthi in 2010 and had a total of 24 entries and two goals. He was playing in the Greek Super League.Previously he had played in several football clubs like SK Rapid Bucharest and many Chakoa Ramat Gan, Hapoel Tel Aviv, Hapoel Jeruselem.

With Nigeria’s national team, Adefemi was three times international player.

A statement from the Greek football federation read: “The Super League and the entire Greek football family would like to express its deepest condolences and sympathy for the family of Olubayo Adefemi, who died tragically in a car accident.”

Condolences have poured in from teams including Aris, Panionios and Ergotelis for Adefemi, who won a silver medal as part of the Nigerian side that took part in the 2008 Beijing Olympics. (source: espn )
