Fox cubs sale in Athens foiled

Unbelievable! Two baby fox cubs were advertised for sale for 300 euros in Athens. The perpetrators had published an ad on an ads internet site. Animal lovers who saw the illegal sale alarmed the Wildlife Hospital Centre (EKPAZ) on the island of Aigina and the trap for the culprits was set. The fox cubs were held in a cage in a printing house in Ilioupolis suburb of Athens. A volunteer from WHC appeared as a buyer and the moment the deal was to be agreed, policemen and officials form the Athens Forest Service stormed the garage.

Petros Kapernarakos, head of WHC said that “The animals were seized, were given to the volunteer, who safely transferred them to the Wildlife Hospital. They will remain there until they are grown up, they will be chipped and released to their natural environment”.

For some unexplainable reason the perpetrators were not detained.

The photographs originally published in www.vachosradio.blogspot.com (it has a video form the a cub in a cage) show how small and helpless the fox cubs are. They are estimated to be 30 days old. They have been held in the very unhealthy environment of the printing house for some 20 days.

The reason to have been deprived from their mother? Pure ‘human’ stupidity…
