May Day in Greece: Public Transport, Ferries & Strikes

Posted by keeptalkinggreece in Society

Of course, May Day is not a holiday but a strike day! Therefore the 1st of May will be celebrated with protest rallies in Athens downtown. As it falls on a Sunday the strike will not affect public services or the private sector but the public transport in cities and sea ways.

Seamen will be on 24h strike so there will be not ships sailing off Piraeus port. I had heard about something like “ships arriving but not setting sail” so you ‘d better check with your travel agent.

Flights will not be affected by the strike.

OSE trains will be halted for 24 hours.

Suburban train (Proastiakos), Urban Train (HSAP) and the Tram will be on 24h strike.

The Metro will operate after 9:00 a.m. The Metro will not operate until and from airport.

The Trolley will not operate from 5-7 a.m. and 10-12 p.m.

Blue Buses will operate as usual with Sunday schedule.
