Greek Health Ministry: No Killer Cucumbers here!

Health Ministry assures that no contaminated vegetarian product has been imported to Greece. However the country remains on alert and the Centre for Disease Control is closely monitoring the spread of the bacterium E.coli. Furthermore, the centre has sent directives to the country’s hospitals to diagnose early cases associated with the epidemic outbreak. Especially patients with gastroenteritis and bloody diarrhea, who report recent trip to Germany, should be treated with caution and be reported immediately to the Centre.
Authorities advice consumers to wash vegetables with plenty of fresh and clean water. I personally would advice to buy locally grown cucumbers, or even better to grow your own cucumbers in your garden or even balcony. Or not buy cucumbers at all!
Fourteen people lost their lives and more than 1,000 got ill with the fatal E.coli bacterium in Germany. Authorities there blame cucumbers imported from Spain as the cause of the bacterial outbreak, blames that triggered a diplomatic war between Madrid and Berlin.
Meanwhile patients infected with the mysterious bacteria have been recorded also in other European countries and a woman lost her life in Sweden. All patients had return from a trip to Germany. Read more here
