What’s Up in Greece on June 16? The thriller goes on…

There shouldn’t be a question-mark at the end of the title. And the post should have another title anyway. Something like “Greek Dramatic Chaos” or something like that. While we are waiting the announcement of the new ministers, another PASOK-deputy resigned in the morning. Giorgos Floridis, an old party official, submitted his resignation, however he resigns also from his parliamentary seat, so that PASOK remains with 155 seats in Parliament. The Floridis’s seat will be occupied by the ‘second-best’ in his area.

Finance Minister George Papaconstantinou is leading the session of the Economy Committee at the Parliament. Scenarios speak of him to remain in the new cabinet, implying that Papandreou will split the ministries that deal with economy.

It is not exactly known when the new cabinet will be announced but it will be during the day. Tomorrow the new ministers will take their oath. Then a period of two days is needed before the PM will seek a vote of confidence at the Parliament. The date is set most likely for Tuesday, June 21st.

After the turbulence and the political thriller of  yesterday, Athens Stock Exchange started on a falling course today, as it was expected. One hour after the session begin, and the General Index was down -1%, but right now it seems to recover a bit.
