Smog in Athens: Increased Ozone Levels
Posted by keeptalkinggreece in Very Mix, weather
If you live in some suburbs of Athens and you feel a clot in the throat, a bumping headache and some breathing difficulties, it is the smog and the increased ozone levels. According to measurements of Atmospheric Monitoring Network of Athens, the ozone levels exceeded the normal threshold in at least two suburbs.
At 12:00 the monitoring device stationed in Agia Paraskevi reached 186 mg/m3 and in Nea Smyrni 198 mg/m3.
For this reason the Ministry of Health urged the population to stay at home and avoid moving outside. This warning refers to people with respiratory and cardiovascular diseases, and elderly and the children.
The public information threshold is 180 mg/m3 , the alarm threshold is 240 mg/m3.
Ozone levels increase every summer in Athens and particularly in these two suburbs. So far, I haven’t heard of any measures….
