What’s Up in Greece on Sept 26?

More or less the ‘hell’ is up in Greece today and I give you only a short idea about it. Streets are desperately jammed as many residents of Athens use their private cars due to the strike of public transport. There are also quite some protests adding to the chaos on the streets.

Greek Finance Minister Evangelos Venizelos concluded his talks in Washington, and Greek media correspondents report of … well… rather depressive results. It looks as if he gave IMF-Chief Christine Lagarde a list with new austerity measures for the Greek citizens. Lagarde has asked a ‘written commitment’ from Venizelos. There is an IMF announcement about the talks, saying ‘most probably the Troika will be in Athens this week.”

Greek media claim the new measures will be announced towards the end of this week.

More public transport strikes during the week.

Tomorrow, Sept 27th 2011, the odious property levy draft bill will be voted by the parliament. Or not…. Some governing party PASOK deputies threaten to resign but such threats we’ve heard before. At the very end, hardly a deputy takes the risk to bring the government into fall and risk a possible “disorderly default and chaos in the society”, as it is been said by the government.

Prime Minister George Papandreou will travel to Berling tomorrow for a meeting with Chancellor Angela Merkel.

KTG will report about all these and more during the day.

Keep tuned with Keep Talking, Greece. It’s best to check and refresh from time to time our KTG-Homepage….
