Greece’s General Strike: Public Transport, Flights, Oct 5

Workers at public transport will join the general strike on October 5th 2011 with “work stoppages” so that protesters can join the demonstrations in downtown Athens. The Metro will operate as usual. Blue buses will operate 9 am – 9 pm., Trolley will operate 8 am – 9 pm. Urban Train HSAP and Tram will operate 10 am – 6 pm. Trains and Proastiakos will be on 24-hour strike. Also Air Traffic Controllers will be on 24-hour strike, the Athens FIR will close at midnight oo:01 tonight and remain closed until October 5th midnight. There will be no flights from and to Greek airports.

Problems are expected at the ports as some seamen unions will join the actions.

Taxis will operate as usual.

With the 24-hour strike public and private sector unions protest the economic policies of the government and the ‘labour reserve’.

Another general strike is scheduled for October 19th 2011 where also the shops will be closed according to their trade union confederation.
