Well, you have to live in Greece and understand the finesses of the language to have a clear pictures of what’s is going on here. Currently the Greek government is confronted with two major fronts and has to fight against them: the taxi owners and the municipality/garbage workers.

While the politicians exhaust their weapons in verbal threats to leave protesting garbage workers unpaid and 3 months imprisosnment and pass the bill for the taxis, the two interest groups are adamant to fight until the end.

Garbage workers heralded today “Blood will flow“.

In similar tone, the taxi owners proclaimed “We’ll die and take other with us“.

Thank God, so far no a drop of blood has been lost. The taxi owners limited their actions in a protest march today and an authorised break into the Ministry of transport yesterday. They also announced that they will participate on the 48-hour strike of October 19-20, 2011.

The garbage workers continue their strike and threatened that if the government gives the garbage collection to private companies, “blood will flow in the streets, we’ll bring the government into fall and there will be victims if workers will be laid off”.

Municipality workers and the majority of the majors agreed not to give garbage collection to private companies.

Rumors even claim of the ‘usual suspects’ who want to make big money with the privatization of the garbage.

Municipality workers normally work on temporary contracts for 500-600 EUR per month.

The government seems unable to take the situation under control…
