UPDATE Oct 18 at 9 pm: there is information that the Air Traffic Controllers have cancelled the 48h strike and that they will have a work stoppage instead. The work stoppage is due from (midnight Tuesday) 00:01 am until 12 o’ clock noon (local time), Wednesday 19, 2011. Eurocontrol gives the info. There will be most probably flight delays. Check with your airline, please!
UPDATE Oct 18/11: The 48h strike has been confirmed! Greek Air Traffic Controllers (GATCA) decided to join the general strike on October 19/20, 2011. There will be no flights from and to Greek airports from Wednesday 00:01 until Thursday 24:00 midnight local time. Watch out for updates, just in case a court would rule the strike as ‘illegal’. However during last week’s strike, there was no court ruling.

Bunch of assholes. Do they think that the tourists affected by these strikes will return next year? Not a chance. Delayed passengers in the UK are being offered deals to Spain and other countries. I work in the tourist industry in Rhodes and the number of tourists that have already said “Never Greece again” is unbelievable. Let them strike, let them ruin everything for all the population of this country. You reap what you sow, and if they sow enough seeds, they will be living off the land again very very soon as the tourist industry will go elsewhere.
Who knows if you’re all here next year? Weird enough, even the IATCA issued a statement that the Greek Air Traffic Controllers sector should be streghten with personnel.
We have established within one year business in medical tourism, where people from abroad come to Greece to do their treatments. If this will continue with strikes and other inconveninces like this we can start all over again becouse the people will go for treatments back to other contries. Great way to get rid off businesses which brings the money into Greece where the money is needed. I hope all this will help Greece since I really like this country, but I have my doupts.
Interesting: profiteers, “foreigners” who “work” in the terrorism-industry are pissed off by strikes.
I have also cool ideas how to make money in Greece but i will never do! If i would write a book about nice greek locations i won’t tell the real names, better give it names of locations there the rent-bike/cars-”travellers” ruined everything.
When these tourists don’t come back to Greece, it’s better for her. An economy based on the sell-out of the whole countryside as an oh so sweet blue/white Disneyland isn’t good at all. And tourism is never a future perspective anyway, may be it’s for north-africa but not for an independent country.
Where will the people go when they can only hate their new plastic-country if they don’t have money to feed their kids and grannies?
I’ll stay here and steal someones work-place…
