Riot Police Ends Power Co. Occupation – Arrests Unionists

Riot police intervened and ended the occupation of the electronic system department of Greek power company DEH, arresting twelve unionists, including the chairman of GENOP-DEH, and five civilians. The government had given DEH-union an ultimatum two days ago. But the unionists continued their action causing major disturbances in the function of the electricity bills and emergency property tax collection.

However the riot police intervention did not solve any problem. On the contrary. Employees at occupied department refused to go back to work unless the unionists get freed. GENOP-DEH union launched a 48-hour strike as of tomorrow. Unionists threaten to close down power supplying units. (so no wonder, if KTG remains …silent; it would be due to power cuts).

Αποτέλεσμα, μερικά λεπτά μετά τόσο ο πρόεδρος της ΓΕΝΟΠ όσο και άλλα πέντε άτομα να προσαχθούν από τους αστυνομικούς στο Α.Τ.

GENOP-DEH chairman is taking to police station

Powerful DEH unionist started several actions to protest the ’emergency property tax’ through the electricity bills. According to the law, public and private power suppliers are obliged to cut off the electricity to those who do not pay the tax. That is the most extortionate austerity measure ever.

Unionists Clash with Riot Police

Currently many there is a protest action outside the DEH department in Cholargos/Athens with many members of left-wing parties, civic movement “I Don’t Pay”, DEH personnel and citizens.

PS Amid harsh austerity DEH plans to raise electricity prices at … 19%! 🙁 🙁 🙁
