Greece is expected to paralyze on upcoming Thursday, December 1st, 2011, due to the general 24-hour strike announced by the public and private sector unions. State and municipality services will be on hold. Ships and ferries will remained docked at the ports because seamen will join the strike and airplanes will be grounded because employees at Civil Aviation Authority will join the protests as well. Public Transport means will launch work stoppages to facilitate protesters to join the marches. So far it has been announced that Blue Buses will operate from 9 am to 9 pm. Decisions from employees at Metro, Tram etc have not been announced yet, so please, watch for updates!
Protesters will gather at several meeting points in downtown Athens at 11 am, a march towards the Parliament will follow.
Employees, civil servants and workers oppose the wages cuts, the changes in labour contracts, the “labour reserve” and the shrinking of the living standards.
On the same day, the Budget 2012 will be voted at the Greek Parliament. Next year’s budget will most likely bring additional austerity measures of some 4 billion EUR.
If looks as if every Greek household needs a private money-printing machine in order to cope with the unbelievable regular and emergency taxes, while incomes shrink and goods & utilities prices remain high.
