What’s Up in Greece on Nov 30?

A little bit of calmness is up in Greece today. Why? Because of the Greek media strike and the 6th aid tranche approved by the Eurogroupon Tuesday night. This doesn’t mean of course that Greece’s problems have been solved. It’s just a breath of relief, one second within eternity.
Greek media have launched a 24-hour strike for today, one day ahead of the general strike of public and private sector unions that will paralyze the country. There are no live news programmes on TV and radio, with the effect that we get one day break from economic disaster news. The situation in the Greek media is devastating with big salary cut, many lay offs, minimizing the working days, and at least 3,000 people in several media companies who haven’t been paid for 5 to 10 months. And they are officially not considered as ‘jobless’. Not on strike are many news portals as the Journalists’ Union ESHEA does not ‘recognizes’ journalists working on internet as such…
Eurogroup fiance ministers agreed on Tuesday night to give Athens the 6th aid tranche. The €8-billion aid will come around the middle of December. This is a major relief for Greek politicians and Greek citizens, especially the civil servants and the pensioners. Then without the 6th aid tranche there would be ‘no money’…
In fact, that’s the news of the day due to media strike!? Oh, No! KTG will bring up some stories today.
So keep tuned!
PS It is unbelievable that this month November that started with political turmoil and replaced George Papandreou as prime Minister ends up soooooo quitely!
