Nothing serious is up in Greece, except the PSI, the Troika and the economic crisis. The rest is a semi-cold, semi-sunny weather although meteorologists say we’re supposed to be freezing. I think the pleasant weather conditions is the only benefit of living in Athens.
Chief of Institute of International Finance Charles Dallara is due to meet prime minister Lucas Papademos tonight at 08 p.m. and continue the talks about the Greek bond swap (PSI). Greek media report that the Greek government wants to have achieved a deal by tomorrow.
The Troika representatives are still in Athens putting pressure on Greek government for structural reforms and measures that will crack the financial spine of households.
GSEE, the private sector union rejected the employers’ association proposal to freeze the wages for 3 years, arguing that the wages are not the problem for the compatitiviness of the country. According to collective bargain, employees should get a 2% wage increase in July. The Troika wants horizontal cuts of 20%. As the GSEE rejects wages cuts, and deputies will hardly vote in favor of such a bill, it looks as if the government will be forced to pass such provision per ministerial or presidential decision. Sad.

Doctors and health care personnel at four Athens public hospitals are demonstrating outside the Ministry of Health. The 250 protesters oppose the measures of labour reserve, the wages cuts and demand permanent work. The chant slogans “Loverdo [health minister] stop the cheating, a rebellion in health is coming”.
