The final countdown for Greece’s future and Greeks’ pockets is up today, as the coalition government leaders are asked to give their blessing to additional austerity measures.
The finalized text of the additional austerity measures reached the political leaders of the coalition government this morning. A ‘book’ of 16 pages translated into Greek. However the original text in English consists of 50 pages… A fact that triggered discontent in the headquarters of PASOK, Nea Dimokratia and LAOS. Papandreou, Samaras and Karatzaferis examine and evaluate the Troika proposals on more austerity, on wages and pensions cuts, on lay-off and privatization.
Papandreou says, they have to accept everything, while ND and LAOS have some reservations, Greek media report.
The meeting of Papademos-political leaders have been postponed for 3 pm – it was originally set for 1 pm. Latest information speaks of another postponement for after 3 pm! The meeting will be followed by a cabinet meeting that will approve the loan agreement. This will have to be voted at the Parliament until Sunday, Feb 12, 2012. Quiz: will all gov’ deputies will vote in favor?
At the same time Greeks started to calculate how much they will lose from the additional austerity measures demanding an average of 20-25% income decreases with fatal impact on pension funds and state revenues.
With the monthly minimum wage down from €751 gross to €600, i.e. -22%, employees will earn just €780 gross after 10 years of work. Nice perspective….
IIF head Charles Dallara left Athens for Paris for talks with his partners on the PSI.
Many parts of the country are in state of emergency due to the heavy rainfalls in the last hours. Cities and villages in Peloponnese , Eastern Greece, and in Thrace, in NE part of the country. The prefectures of Rodopi and Xanthi due to the floods caused by a burst dam in Bulgaria.
Snow is falling in the Northern parts of Greece, where snow and frost are causing traffic problems. There are snowfalls also in the Northern parts of Athens. Several schools are closed.
Newsit.gr reports that an unknown person cut three olive trees in Glyfada, one of the ‘rich’ suburbs of Athens, and get fire wood free of charge. The olive trees were standing on the pavement.
Greek loan receivers rush to the banks to find a solution to their inability to pay back. An average of 5,000 requests reach the banks daily.

The bodies of three Afghan immigrants were found on the national road to Igoumenista, Western Greece. Autopsy showed they had died of suffocation. Tragic end for broken dreams…
Athens Stock Exchange records a +2.84% with investors eyeing the Troika-Greece deal. The General Index is above 800 units.

Without the intention of insulting anyone. In my opinion this is the beginning of the end…
You’ll be inslaved for lifetime…
All the interest of the “Troika” is to save their money and their interests. Not the best for the Greek people.
- What will you live on in the future?
- Air alone?
I hope this will end up with the peoples best in mind!
Not the survive of the €.

Air??? rumors claim the air will be taxed as well.
Reminds me. Yesterday, I went for a little drive around. Passed a cemertery, outside 3 cars from the tax-police was parked. Its probably just because my mind is spinning with this whole situation here, but gotta say, I laughed my behind off!!
no wonder. all the money circulating in a cemetary by the living is without a receipt.
Was more thinking about the dead… If they paid their emergency property tax ect.. Maybe THATS why, the oil goes missing in the candles here in the cemeteries here in Rhodes. NOT because of people stealing it. But its the DEH who is runing around collecting it, due to unpaid taxes… Suddenly had the total revelation there…
no emergency property tax on graves. don’t feed the Troika with new ideas lol
It’s not just the Troika Ulf. We have a very corrupt government. With the measures that are already in place the people have a hard time making payments of every sort. Hundreds have returned their license plates because they can’t afford their cars anymore, to mention only a tiny bit of the iceberg. But most importantly, most cannot pay the mortage of their homes anymore and the banks are confiscating them.
we cannot allow such unbased ‘rumors’ here. Thank you for your undertanding.
Sorry Keep. Will keep this in mind.
thank you.
“A different government in Athens would have the chance to issue bonds on the german debt, once Germany owe a war reparation to Greece and this reparation is clearly higher than the greek public debt. Then, the creditors of the greek state wouldn’t be given the right to refuse. They would have two choices: accept (1) the bonds or (2) the debt cancellation by the greek government on behalf of the greek sovereign people. All the debt bonds that would be left could be auctioned and the money used for public investment.”
I believe the situation Greece finds itself in now is “damned if they do, damned if they don’t”.Either way the next few years are going to be very hard. Oh, and men breath for free on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Women breath for free on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, on Sunday you just take your chances…
the dilema you mention is the real one. Sunday will be breath-free day
