While speculators continue to operate undisturbed, the Ministry of Development has exhausted its severity and the law in punishing a baker for handing out free potatoes to his customers, two weeks ago. According to daily “Eleftheros Typos”, the Ministry fined the baker with 5,000 euros.
A statement issued by the General Secretariat of Commerce said that the shopkeeper was punished for misleading consumers because the potatoes were not all Greek, but also French, according to the invoices. Further he was accused for illegal seizure of the sidewalk, because the bags with the potatoes “occupied” space outside the store and the potatoes were distributed without obtaining a relevant license.
“Eleftheros Typos” notes that the Ministry fines bakers, but at the same time it keeps 41 folders full of data about overpriced products in the Greek market in the …drawers. (via news247.gr)
