Olympics 2012 OpeningCeremony : “Epic” with a 86-year-old Bond Girl…

Posted by in Sports

Epic! That’s the word that could describe the opening ceremony of Summer Olympic Games 2012 in London. Even thought I couldn’t understand why UK’s National Health System had to be pointed out with all the nurses and kids in pyjamas in non-stop dancing mood. I think, the Brits may have much more reasons to celebrate the functioning of their NHS system than Greeks with their deteriorating EOPPY -health care system..

Meanwhile everything has been said and written about the opening ceremony and I do not need to mention here. But I can tell you of my personal impressions from the ceremony I watched on the TV screen of a cafe in downtown Athens, with two friends and a couple of cold beers.

I loved the Mr Bean typical moment …

…and the very touching appearance of legendary boxer Mohammad Ali holding the Olympic flag, despite his Parkinson disease.

 THE QUEEN

But most of all, the real show-stealing moment of the ceremony was the genius video clip of Her Majesty the Queen with Daniel Craig as James Bond.

“The Queen’s cameo appearance was a particular highlight for the non-British audience as she took part in a comical segment filmed in Buckingham Palace with Daniel Craig, before seemingly parachuting into the Olympic Stadium with the James Bond star,” wrote British newspapers.

*** for some reason the original video has disappeared from all British newspapers (Royal copyright, maybe?) and here is another version…

Corgis and an helicopter and a parachuting Queen…

Was the real Queen coming down from the copter? Last night, while watching the opening ceremony, a British friend insisted the Queen on the clip was a stunt-woman.

And “definitely it was not the real Queen skydiving with Great Britain’s’ colours” my friend claimed…

Of course, what we didn’t see on TV was that while the Queen and James Bond ”parachuted down to the ground, at the last moment – and in real-time – the Queen appeared in the arena to take her seat to cheers and applause.”

To dissolve our doubts a Buckingham Palace spokeswoman confirmed the real Queen was on the video clip and said the Queen was “very happy” to take part and was “delighted to be asked to be involved in something so exceptional”. (mirror.uk)

However it seems the moment the real or fake Queen put her feet on the ground the delightness and happiness were gone. Camera’s cought the 86-year-old Bond Girl feeling rather bored…

And at the end, billions of  audience across the globe were kind of shocked to see the Queen reading down a fourteen-word statement and declaring the opening of the Olympic Games.

Fourteen words spoken out in an indifferent tone like reading a shopping list, a grumpy look at the millions of people and a quick u-turn back to her seat.

As billions were stunned about the royal boredom and the stone-face, historians will have to give answers as to why the Queens was Not Amused at the end such a great day… Most probably because the latest Bond-girl had to be off to bed many hours before…

PS if a Buckingham Palace spokesman/-woman confirms the real Queen went down from helicopter, the friend had promised to finance my website for a period of 10 years :) But if the Queen was real in the first part of the video, I think I deserved to have KTG financed for five years… This is a fair deal, isn’t it?
