Rain, hail and strong winds hit North-Western Greece on Tuesday flooding large agricultural fields, homes basements and shops. Part of Egnatia national road was closed to traffic due to huge volume of water.
The storm with thunder, rain, hail and strong winds started on Monday night and continued the whole night, turning roads into dangerous streams.
Dozens of homes and large agricultural fileds have been flooded in the prefectures of Imathia and Pella.
Local fire brigades received hundreds of phone calls for water pumping form homes and shops. In several cases, the firemen moved to rescue seniors trapped in their flooded homes and motorists in their cars.
The bad weather front is expected to move towards Eastern Macedonia and Thrace on Tuesday.
