Greece vs Germany: Eating at a Restaurant

Eating culture can say a lot about nations, folks and people. Greece and Germany? Two …

  1. 120.000.000 olive trees! That’s a lot of trees.

and I wonder, why average olive oil has gone up to 7.10 euro per liter recently. was 4.80 two years ago.

  3. I bought some good grade olive oil with low acidity for 5.25 Euro in Greece two years ago. 15 liters. Really good oil. Don’t know what it would be now but prices going up 25-30% is a lot. Was there a bad harvest or is some speculation going on?

yes, 2 years ago… bad harvest? I hardly think prices go down on a good harvest.

  5. Wasn’t there a problem in Italy with a bug that destroys olive trees there? And then the Italians bought up a lot of Greek oil to mix it with their own oil? Perhaps that drove the prices up in Greece. That pest is a big problem in Italy. Somebody from FAO told me that they cleared a 15 km wide zone through the country to prevent the bug from spreading. Better pray that bug doesn’t come to Greece. Either accidentally or intentionally, you know, to kill the competition.
