For fifty days a 26-year-old woman was fighting for her life in the intensive care of a hospital in Athens where she was since 23rd July. On Tuesday, Sept 11th, the heavily injured victim of the Athens wildfires succumbed to her injuries.
Together with her mother, Elisavet Hardaloupa was in Mati when the deadly fire broke out. Both women tried to seek protection and escape danger, however, the flames trapped them.
They were both found heavily injured and transferred to Athens hospitals.
The mother passed away in the hospital last month.
Elisavet’s death increases the death toll in the Athens wildfires to 99.
Seventeen people remain hospitalized, three of them are intubated.
According to a statement by the Greek Fire Service, 16 people died in the hospitals and another 83 in the wildfires areas in East Attica.
