A high rank official from Libya, a Gaddafi envoy is in Athens today to meet with Deputy Foreign Minister Dimitris Dollis and the General Secretary A. Zeppos. Special envoy Mohammed Tahir Salia is bringing a message form Gaddafi. Greek Foreign Ministry has made clear that there will be no statements on the issue.
“This meeting is taking place following relevant arrangements between Foreign Minister Dimitris Dollis and EU foreign and security policy chief Lady Ashton, ahead of Thursday’s meeting of the EU Foreign Affairs Council,” said Greek Foreign Ministry in a statement.
The arrival of Gaddafi’s envoy comes a day after another envoy flew to Cairo via the Athens FIR and two days after Muammar Gaddafi had a telephone conversation with Greek Prime Minister George Papandreou.
Greece and Libya have been having friendly political and economic relations since decades, with more than 4,000 Greeks working in constructions sites in the Libyan dessert.
