I just read in our FB page the worries of a Portuguese woman about the inevitable country’s bailout by the International Monetary Fund hawks. She was wondering how doe sit look like to be in the arms of speculators… creating a post-modern lumpenproletariat in the 21st century! The old, nice, classic Zeibekiko song “Min Klais” (Don’t cry) by Sotiria Bellou is dedicated to her and all our Portuguese Fado-friends.
Do not cry and feel sorry that it dusks
We who lived poor
The world’s rain doesn’t mind us
We who live alone
The houses are low
as deserted barracks
Our summers are short
and endless the winters
Do not cry and don’t be afraid of the dark
we who lived poor
the Heartlessness of the world doens’t frighten us
a Sunday will come for us too
The houses are low
as deserted barracks
our summers are short
and endless the winters
