Aretaieion and Aiginiteion, two historical university hospitals in Athens downtown are reportedly to close down.  The managers of the two hospitals in a statement announced the suspension of most of the hospital services due to lack of funding and therefore the lack of medicines, pharmaceutical supplies, food and fuel … As for the salaries of the employees…. well…

Mobilization of the employees is expected in the coming days.

In recent months there have been often complaints about lack of supplies in other state hospitals of the Greek capital as well. There are reports about shortages in simple things like gauze, cotton or even toilette paper.

Many suppliers have reportedly stopped providing goods as the state fails to pay them. On the other hand the scandals of overcharges come and go.
