Athens downtown will be closed for motorists on Sunday, May 15, 2011 as the 28th Running Race will be held. From 8 am until the end of the race the roads will be closed to traffic all along the three routes that will be used by thousands of runners.
More specifically, the three routes are:
Route 1: Panathenaic Stadium (Terminal) – Vasilissis Sofias (Hilton) – Venizelos (University) – Omonia Square – Agiou Constantinou – Socratous – Panayi Tsaldaris (Piraeus streets) – Agion Assomaton – Agiou Pavlou – Dionysiou Areopagitou – Vasilissis Amalias – Filellinon – Syntagma Square (Stop).
Route 2: Panathenaic Stadium (Terminal) – Vasilissis Sofias (Hilton) – Vasileos George A – Syntagma Square (Stop).
Route 3 for people with disabilities: Kolokotronis Square (Starting) – Stadium – Syntagma Square (Stop).
The start will be at 10:00 am from the PanathenaicStadium and at the same time; the starting for people with disabilities will be at Kolokotronis Square. i assume the race will last some 2-3 hours maximum (?).
The end of the round will be held in Syntagma Square. A music concert will follow.
Active participants can use the public transport free of charge by showing their participation card.
