Athens: Protesters Boo ex-FinMin Official – Police Fire Teargas (videos)

Another day with tension between protesters and riot police occurred workers and employees at the municipalities demonstrated in Athens downtown. In fact it was a rather small group of less than 1,000 people moving from one city’s point to the next and then back again fooling the police.  At the end they managed to enter the yard of the Greek Parliament, a fact that triggered the reaction of the riot police. They withdrew to the Monument of the Unknown Soldier for a sit-in protest and they started singing the children’s song “Ah, little bunny”. For some unclear reason, the chairman of the labor union got injured and was taken to the hospital.

Earlier, the protesters booed a former general secretary of Finance Ministry who was enjoying a coffee at the noble Kolonaki district of Athens.

The workers and employees at Municipalities hold a 24h strike today to protest about the increase of working hours in nursery schools in particular (from 30h/w to 40h/w) and public administration in general (from 37,5 h/w to 40 h/w), about the personnel transfer to other departments as well as the signing of contracts with private companies for the garbage collection.
