The pulse of the society comes form the island of Crete, specifically from the Chania prefecture. According to a public poll, conducted by Cretan Polls, 65.5% of the asked Greeks replied that the government is not authorized to take the austerity measures. 42.1% believe that the economic situation will worsen and 17.6% that the country will default. 58.9% of the Chania residents claim that they will not participate in the next elections, or that they will cast a ‘white/invalid’ vote or that they have not decided yet what they will vote.
Here is to mention that the prefecture of Chania is the fortress of the conservative former prime minister Konstantinos Mitsotakis. Nevertheless.
I find it interesting that the conservative voters of Chania adopt the views of the …left-wing party SYRIZA. Party chairman Alexis Tsipras said yesterday that the government is not authorized to take the measures, because the majority of the people are against them and that governing party PASOK came to power with a total different pre-elections programme.
