Happy Women’s Day: Baby Boy Born in a Super Puma Helicopter

The little boy was in a hurry this morning. He could not wait that his mother would reach a maternity hospital. He was born in a Super Puma helicopter, 8 nautical miles south of the island of Syros, Cyclades, at a height of 2,000 feet above the earth surface. The ambulance helicopter was transferring the pregnant woman, 30, from the island of Sifnos to Elefsina airbase near Athens. The original plan was that the mother would give birth at a hospital of the Greek capital. However, the newborn has other plans in mind.  An ambulance doctor and a midwife helped the mother to give birth to a healthy boy. The Super Puma landed on the island of Syros, mother and newborn were admitted to the local hospital.

The 384 Search & Rescue Squadron welcomed the baby as its “honorary member”, the pilot of the helicopter will be the Godfather of the boy, as it is customary in such cases.
