An experienced British endurance runner is missing after taking part in a marathon in Greece, in the West Mani of Sout-Westrn Peloponnese. Greek media report that a search operationwith the participation of search and rescue teams and many volunteers from the broader area have been searching since last Monday in the canyon of Vouros outside the village Exochori. The runner has been missing since Sunday.
According to British Daily Mail John Lawton, 62, from Cheshire, disappeared while tackling the challenging Taygetos Marathon on Saturday. The annual race, across rough, mountain tracks, starts from the village of Kardamyli, near Kalamata, (SW PEloponnese) and sees runners climb above 2,000m.

Mr Lawton’s wife Lynda, who accompanied him on the trip, became concerned when he failed to cross the finish line. She alerted race organisers who discovered that Mr Lawton, from Alsager, had not passed through a checkpoint on the route.
