After an long silence and short before the elections of May 6th, former prime minister George Papandreou decided to make some statements and thus in a local newspaper. In an interview to daily “Peloponnese” Papandreou said that he “apologizes in the name of the whole political world for the cuts in wages and pensions and the explosion of unemployment.”
He defended his policies and urged people to vote for PASOK saying “it is the only serious option so that the country’s staying in the euro zone is not in danger and because the country needs a stable government with European orientation.
It is better that “Greeks are angry than to have to live in the total disaster of a bankruptcy.”
When asked about his 2009-elections slogan “there is money”, that drew a lot of criticism then the moment he won the elections he took the country to the International Monetary Fund, Papandreou said:
“I didn’t mean it as an order for benefits. It wa sjsut a reminder that there is money in this blessed country, but money that is overspent, privatized or given as a gift.”
PS Too late, no substance – apologies…
Tell that to the people who have lost their jobs and dignities, are starving and looking in garbage bins for whatever can be salvaged, and the families of the over 1,000 people that have committed suicide!!! The audacity of politicians!!!
But if you then tell that to all those who leave their job for a whole week because of the 3-days off because of elections, May-day and why-not-take-Monday-too and are driving around here with their big gas-gurgling SUVs, their designer sunglasses, suits and dresses! The audacity of all who ‘ate’ and still are ‘eating’!!!
