Greek finance ministry announced on Sunday a new taxation scheme for gambling wins. It steps back from the original plan to tax the OPAP wins from the very first euro after objections of the gambling agents and the green light from the European Commission.
Wins up to 100 euro will be tax-free.
Wins between 100 and 500 euro will be taxed with a 15% rate, while wins over 500 euro will be taxed with 20%.
The new scheme will allow gamblers winning less than 100 euro to re-invest their wins in new games. the new proposal is expected to be submitted to the Parliament soon.
I guess, tax on the very first euro would force winners of small amount not to go at all and redeem their winning ticket….
…or pay utility and heating bills 🙂
