A bomb exploded outside the residence of shipowner Nikos Tsakos, near Acropolis at 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday. A warning phone call to daily Eleftherotypia half an hour earlier had sent police and explosives experts to the area.
Greek media report that the bomb was placed inside a school bag left at the residence yard’s fence.
Nobody was injured, only minor material damage was caused.
Tsakos was not at home at the time of the explosion. Only one security guard who was removed from the residence by the police before the explosion.
No organization has claimed responsibility for the attack so far.
Who is?
Nikos Tsakos, 50, has been President, Chief Executive Officer and a director of Tsakos Energy Navigation LTD since its inception. He has been involved in ship management since 1981 and his seafaring experience began in 2004.
Since 2008 he is member of the board of Bank of Cyprus.
He is married to Greek fashion designer Silia Kritharioti.
According to Eleftherotypia, the daily that also received the warning phone call, his named is been allegedly included in the Lagarde list, and the justice ahs been investigating a real estate scandal of several billion euro from the years 2005-2008.
